Matthias Lehmanns Projekt macht die Zeit als bestimmenden Faktor des Grundstücks erlebbar. Es nutzt den Wasserturm als Herzstück einer überdimensionalen Sonnenuhr: Dessen Schatten fällt bei unbewölktem Himmel zwischen 9 und 16 Uhr auf massive, aus Beton gegossene Ziffern im sandigen, von Pioniergewächsen bedeckten Untergrund. Der Titel 12 Uhr Mittags zitiert dabei einerseits einen Westernklassiker - ein Spiel mit der prärieartigen Landschaft. Andererseits ist der Zeitmesser am Mittag ausgerichtet. Zwar ergeben sich durch den veränderten Son- nenstand über die Monate Ungenauigkeiten. Doch die Zeit franst nur an den Rändern aus. Die 12 bleibt Referenz.
Der 1975 in Karl-Marx-Stadt geborene und in Meißen lebende Künstler hat Erfahrung mit Licht und Schatten. Nach seinem Meisterschülerab- schluss an der HfBK Dresden bezieht er in seinen Installationen häufig die natürliche Beleuchtung mit ein. Seine Arbeiten ergänzen ihren Orts- durch einen Zeitbezug. In Hannover Limmer nutzt Lehmann die Sonne nicht nur als Projektor einer ablesbaren Uhrzeit. Vielmehr deutet er durch die Konstruktion seiner Turm-Uhr soziale Orte wie ein Rathaus oder eine Kirche an und nimmt den Strukturwandel durch einen kleinstmöglichen baulichen Eingriff vorweg. |

Matthias Lehmann's project makes time a determining factor of the site. It uses the water tower as the centrepiece of an oversized sundial: between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on an unclouded day, its shadow falls on massive numbers cast in concrete in the sandy subsoil covered with pioneer plants. On the one hand, the title “12 Uhr Mittags” (12 noon) quotes a western classic – a play on the prairie-like landscape. On the other hand, the timepiece is oriented to noon. Though there are inaccuracies due to the changing position of the sun over the months, the time only frays at the edges. The 12 remains the reference.
The artist, who was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1975 and lives in Meißen, has experience with light and shadow. Following his post-graduate degree (Meisterschüler) at the HfBK Dresden, he often incorporates natural lighting into his installations. His works complement their reference to place with a reference to time. In Hannover Limmer, Lehmann uses the sun not only as a projector of a readable time. Rather, through the construction of his tower clock, he hints at social places such as a town hall or a church and anticipates structural change through the smallest possible structural intervention.
